GRFU forged ties with University of Cape Coast

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have forged closer ties as part of the youth rugby development at schools under the World Rugby banner of 'Get Into Rugby'.

This was made known at at a ceremony where Mr. Bismark Amponsah, a Board Member of GRFU and Mr. Clement Dennis, a rugby coach and technical expert presented Rugby balls to Dr. Daniel Apaak, the Head of Sports at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and members of his staff.

Dr. Apaak emphasized the University's preparedness to include Rugby in its curriculum and stressed the need to have some staff (coaches) trained in the technicalities of the sport.

The rugby grassroots youth development programme at schools also received a boost when Mr. Jason Data, the GRFU Coordinator of 'Get Into Rugby' held a learning camp and exhibition match between kids of the Labone SDA School on November 27 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Mr. Herbert Mensah, President of the GRFU said the the level of growth and performance of Rugby in Ghana will be measured by the performance of Rugby at schools level.

'The 'Get Into Rugby' or youth Rugby development programme at schools level is and will be the highest priority of the GRFU for years to come,' Mr. Mensah said.
