Accra, Nov 30, GNA - A 13 year old pupil from St. Barnabas Anglican school Calvin Quartey defeated a determined Oswael Kpakpo to win the 4th Norlympics Taekwondo children open sparring Championship dubbed '' Discipline through taekwondo''.

The two-day event held at the RLG Hathramani sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium, drew about 550 children, who vied for honors in the different age categories ranging from 5-13.

Quartey was adjudged the best male athlete whilst Latifa Mohammed emerged winner of the female category.

Both were presented with a gold medal, certificate, a bicycle and a cash prize, with the other award winners also taking home medals, cash prize and certificate of participation.

According to Quartey, though he had a tough competition from Kpakpo, his hard work, determination, training and skills in taekwondo gave him the nod, and that, he is now targeting the World champion title.

He appealed for state support, in terms of logistics and equipment to enable him to achieve his aim.

The president of the Norlympics, Norbert Amefo said he was excited with the level of commitment from the participants. ''I am excited for this year's championship and the improvement. This competition is to select good ones and look for sponsors for them so that they can represent Ghana at the Norlympic tourney at the international stage.''

The president of the association thanked KEPCO Engineering and Construction Company and the Korean residents Association in Ghana for their support.
