Madrid, Nov. 27, (GNA/dpa) - Krasnodar snatched top spot in Europa Leage Group C with a 1-0 home defeat of previous leaders Dortmund, thanks to a penalty converted by Pavel Mamayev after just two minutes.
Dortmund had already qualified for the knockout stage and took a reserve-packed side to Russia, whereas Krasnodar wanted to clinch qualification and therefore fielded their best team.
Both sides now have 10 points from five games, with Krasnodar above Dortmund on head-to-head results having lost 2-1 in Germany.
Also Sion lost 2-0 at Rubin Kazan in Group B, on late goals from Blagoy Georgiev and Marko Devic. Sion - who had Birama Ndoye sent off - would have qualified with a win but will now have to wait until the last day, December 10, when they host Liverpool.
Meanwhile in Group E, bottom team Dynamo Minsk edged Viktoria Plzen 1-0 on an injury-time goal from Nenad Adamovic.
This defeat means that Plzen cannot qualify. They have just three points, the same as Minsk. The Minsk result ensured that Villarreal join Rapid in the last 32.
