Accra, Nov. 26, GNA - Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has cut the sod for the commencement of a 3000 square meter Astroturf pitch at his alma mater Accra Academy Senior High School.

Gyan, who passed out from the school in 2002, earlier this year, pledged to construct an Astroturf for the school, where he started his football career.

The multipurpose facility will cost GH¢ 700,000.00 and it's expected to be completed in May next year.

The artificial pitch will arrive from Turkey on January 30 for the historic project of the school, where a bronze statue of the Captain would be mounted for his kind gesture.

The project will include the construction of the field, with a tartan track surrounding it, dressing rooms, a fence wall, toilet facilities and Flood lights, which will give students and other users of the pitch an opportunity to hold activities in the evenings.

The Astroturf, when completed will not only benefit the school but also the public, with the school's permission.

The Head master of the school, Samuel Ofori Agyei commended the Shanghai SIPG striker for the gesture, saying ''we are grateful to Gyan for the project. He has come to give back what he got here. Asamoah is a true Academician and we have his records here. And it's good he remembered us. He made a promise and I believe this will raise our school to unprecedented heights in the annals of the school sporting activities''.

According to the Project coordinator and CEO of Wembley Sports Complex, Robert Coleman, the artificial pitch will be one of the best in the country, and that, his outfit would deliver a good job.

In a short ceremony at the school, Gyan was honored by the 1964 Old Students group with a plaque and a citation for his immense contribution to his Alma Mater.

Gyan, in a remark, encouraged the students to aim high and expressed his gratitude to the management of the school for the opportunity given him.
