NOV 26, 2015 LISTEN

Premiership side Bechem United are set to launch their academy on December 13 in Bechem, which will feed the mainstream team, Kingsley Owusu Achau, club founder has said.

The launch will be in two folds – launch of the academy and the outdooring of the team's players for the 2015/16 season.

Already, the technical team is through with recruitment regarding U-12 players as well as cutting of the sod for the construction of a sports facility, conducted by Nana Kusi Boadum, Domeabrahene.

The bankroller of Bechem United hinted in an interview that the initiative falls within the club's philosophy of grooming players at tender ages and nurturing them into full-fledged stars.

And taking a cue from foreign based sides like Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and local side WAFA, he said the club's management is seeking to form a strong academy that will serve as a conduit to the senior team.

He told this writer at his Adabraka office in Accra, 'We don't believe in big names. The academy system has been one of our topmost priorities. We are inspired by clubs like WAFA who play beautiful football.

'We are expecting a great launch for the academy on December 13; that is a week to the commencement of the league. We have done some serious recruitment, and we are keeping the names to our chest for now. We want it to be a surprise.'

Bechem United recently embarked on a massive nationwide recruitment exercise under the close watch of high profile expatriate coaches.
