Tema, Nov. 24, GNA - Frank Avorsey returned a gross score of 146 to win this year's Tema Open Golf Championship which ended at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday.

He was followed by Michael Owusu-Bonsu with 148 gross whiles Stephen Attiogbe placed third with 149 gross, beating the defending champion, Peter Amenyo on count-back.

In the Ladies category, Jessica Tei came first with 163 gross, with Felicity Gyeabour taking the second position with 174 gross, beating Constance Awuni on count-back.

In the Men's Group 'B' contest, Michael Acheampong came first with 136 net, Tei Lartey Gberbie took the second position with 137 net, E.J. Ocansey placed third with 140 net with Wang Shu taking the fourth position with 141 net.

Elizabeth Captan won the Ladies Group 'B' with 146 net, while Florence Etwi-Barimah came second with 148 net, beating Ama Morgan on count-back.

Vincent Torgah won the Professional's category with 271 gross, E.K. Osei came second with 282 gross and Victor Brave-Mensah placing third with 286 gross.

The two-day 36-Hole scratch championship was sponsored by Tema Country Golf Club.

It attracted over 160 amateur and professional golfers throughout the country.

Mr Nicholas Amoah, General Manager of the Tema Country Golf Club expressed regret at the last minute pull-out of Millicom Ghana Limited, who had been sponsoring the competition for the past 11 years.

He called on corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport to international standards.
