Sports News Canada Clash: Puzzle for Avram Grant
OCT 13, 2015 LISTEN

Ghana coach Avram Grant will have to get to work on his blackboard to put together the Black Stars starting eleven to face Canada in an interntional friendly match at the RFK Stadium in Washington, DC on Tuesday .

Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Chistian Atsu and Rabiu Mohammed have been ruled out of the game, whiles Baba Rahman, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, Daniel Amartey and Ebenezer Assifuah are absent as a result of visa issues for their travel to the United States of America - seven key pieces of the puzzle which the Black Stars gaffer will have to do without, leaving gaps in his game-plan.

Grant has debutants Gideon Baah and Phil Ofosu Ayeh in the team, but even so it will be very much an improvised defensive line-up with Harrison Afful on the right, John Boye and Edwin Gyimah in the middle, with Jeffrey Schlupp operating on the left.

In midfield, Andre Ayew is not fully fit for this game, and his place might be taken by Mubarak Wakaso, who will be pushed up on the left wing position. In the absence of captain Asamoah Gyan and deputy skipper Ayew, Agyemang Badu is expected to lead the team and will play alongside Afriyie Acquah in the holding midfield role.

Avram Grant wil have to do some thinking. He might go for Albert Adomah or David Accam for the right midfield role in a 4-4-2 formation. Or he could go for Bernard Mensah as a playmaker behind a lone striker if he opts for a 4-2-3-1 formation and vary his usual style a bit less.

Up front, it will be Jordan Ayew and Majeed Waris, who will be playing together in the absence of top scorer Asamoah Gyan. The duo will be looking to finding the back of the net again.
