Misinforming the public: GFA surprised at Sports Ministry claim

The Ghana Football Association has expressed shock at claims by the Youth and Sports Ministry that the FA did not inform them of a potential friendly match against Canada on October 13.

The Deputy Sports Minister, Vincent Oppong told Ultimate FM that the Sports Ministry were not informed of any fixed international friendly match and accused the media of taking size when it comes to issues involving the FA and the Ministry.

'We at the ministry were not notified officially by the FA of this friendly game for the senior national team of the state and we have accordingly registered our displeasure officially with the Football Association,'Oppong said

'I can imagine how the media would have dealt with the ministry if it had been the other way round,' he accused.

But the GFA is bemused by the decision of the Deputy Sports Minister to give an impression that there's a frosty relationship between the two bodies since after the FIFA World Cup in 2014, by claiming they were not officially notified of the match against the Canucks.

"Actually the FA is taken aback by the  Deputy Sports Minister's (Vincent Oppong Asamoah) claims that they (sports ministry) are not aware of the friendly match," Saani told Joy FM.

"They are informed from the inside. Let me just put on record that the person who organised this match and started the process of this match is one Mr. Totto.

"He was introduced to us by the Sports Minister Dr. Mustapha Ahmed himself. Four days before he spoke to that radio station in Kumasi, we wrote a letter to the Ministry as a reminder. So it came to us a huge surprise that the Deputy Minister would say this."

Ghana will play Canada in Washington DC today (Tuesday) at the RFK Stadium.
