Today in history: Kudjoe Fianoo heads Ashgold management team
06.10.2015 LISTEN

Exactly 10 years today, the Board of Directors of Obuasi Ashgold Football Club appointed a five-member Interim Management Team (IMC) headed by Kudjoe Fianoo to handle the administration of the club following the resignation of Captain (rtd) Andy Sam, Chief Executive Officer of the Club.

Fianoo was then Administrative Manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and also the Accra Representative of the Miners.

He is on record to have played a key role in the success of GHALCA in the organisation of the prestigious Top Four Tournament. Mr Fianoo also served as the Welfare Officer of the senior National team, the Black Stars serving under such coaches as Bukhard Ziese and Guisepe Dossena and other local coaches. He is also the vice chairman of the Black Stars, but has threaten to quit.

Other members of the IMC included Messrs Kwesi Anane, Clement Donkor, Tony Wood and John Williams. Captain (rtd) Sam was under constant pressure from the supporter's body of the club as a result of the unimpressive performance of the team in the premiership.

Mr Sam in his resignation letter to the Board however said his action was personal and thanked the Board, the playing body, management and supporters for their cooperation during his tenure of office. In a related development, the Board has said it has also accepted the resignation of Hans Van Der Pluym, the Dutch head coach of the team. Coach Van Der Pluym has been replaced by Augustine Evans Adotey.

Kudjoe Fianoo was later confirmed as the Obuasi based CEO and despite having gone through difficult periods, which even forced him to resign at a point in time, before he returned to the club, he assisted Ashgold to win their first league title in 19 years.
