Sir Alex Ferguson has disclosed how Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola never gave him a call back on the Manchester United job.
The Scot also defended the appointment of former Manchester United boss David Moyes who was sacked eight months into his role as Old Trafford boss.
The former Manchester United manager in a documentary, Secrets of Success screened by BBC One revealed how he went for a dinner with the former Barcelona coach in September 2012 and told Guardiola:
'Give me a call and tell me what you're going to do."
He adds: "I was just trying to think way ahead. But I didn't get any answer and then he goes to Bayern Munich.'
On the David Moyes appointment, Sir Alex Ferguson still stands by the decision despite the former Everton manager not lasting a full season at the Manchester club.
Ferguson said:
'I don't think we made a mistake at all. I think we chose a good football man. Unfortunately it didn't work for David.
'Jose Mourinho was going back to Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti was going to Real Madrid, Jurgen Klopp had signed a contract with Dortmund, Louis van Gaal was staying with Holland for the World Cup.'
