The Sports Ministry claim a decision was made to reward each gold medal at the All Africa Games staged in Congo Brazzaville with a cash prize of $2000.

This offer made to the Black Queens on their return from the games after clinching gold was however rejected.

The players of the female national team claim they were owed outstanding bonuses running over $25,000 and were not budging on a compromise.

It took the intervention of President John Mahama who ordered for an improved offer of $5000 to be paid to the team and with the assurances the remaining outstanding amount will be paid to calm nerves.

President of the Ghana FA Kwesi Nyantakyi however reveals there was no official notice about a revised bonus structure for the Black Queens.

'As the President of the GFA I was not aware that the status quo had changed,' he told Starr FM.

'I knew the team will be paid $5000 [on winning gold at the All Africa Games].'

Ghana beat Cameroon 1-0 to clinch Ghana's first ever gold in women's soccer at the 2015 All Africa Games.
