League Report FCPPL: Kotoko not sure about honouring this weekend's games, file protest
SEP 4, 2015 LISTEN

Asante Kotoko remain uncertain over whether they will honour the weekend’s Premier League game against Hasaacas.

The champions have been rocked after being docked points by the Ghana FA’s Disciplinary Committee for using an unqualified player.

Kotoko were adjudged to have fielded an unqualified player – Obed Owusu – in their Premier League win over Hearts of Oak.

They were thus declared losers of the game and were further punished with the deduction of three points from their tally which sees Kotoko drop from third to fifteenth on the league log.

Several of the Kotoko fans have suggested the side boycott the league with immediate effect – putting their penultimate league match away to Hasaacas under threat.

And despite initial assurance from the club’s board chairman Paul Adu Gyamfi that the team will honour the match, there remain a huge uncertainty whether the team will indeed honour the game.

“I am at this point unable to confirm whether we will honour the game [against Hasaacas],” Kotoko’s deputy operations manager Ali Maradona said.

“The board is yet to take a definitive decision on that.”

Kotoko have meanwhile filed an appeal to the Disciplinary Committee’s ruling and have also hinted they will be applying for a stay of execution to restore their lost points pending final determination of the case.

Appeal filed
Kotoko have also filed documents at the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), seeking a reversal of the Disciplinary Committee ruling which docked the club six points in the Hearts of Oak-Obed Owusu case.

Accra Representative, Edmund Ackah in a chat with Asantekotokosc.com, disclosed that, they filed the appeal on Thursday – just a day into the three-day chance, within which the club has to file an appeal.

Edmund Ackah expressed the confidence that the Appeals Committee of the GFA will reverse the judgement given by the disciplinary committee.
