The Japanese Community in Ghana is not hiding their intentions to be part of the historic maiden edition of the Millennium Marathon as they have intensified their training at the El Wak Sports Stadium.
Team Leader Dr. Higuchi told yours truly in an exclusive interview that the Japanese are gearing up for the 2020 Olympic Games and want to use the Millennium marathon to sensitize and educate Ghanaians about Japan and the people.
He said Sports gathers people from different cultures and he believes the organizers of the Millennium Marathon have the same objective of uniting people and using the occasion to create awareness of healthy living and fitness.
He hinted that the Japan community constituting the staff of the Embassy, JICA and other NGOs are joining the Millennium Marathon.
Dr. Higuchi urged other nations to join the Millennium Marathon and cultivate the habit of exercising daily.
He said they are coming to run with the kids and the elderly.
“It’s all about 2020, but the Millennium Marathon is now and we are taking part fully. We have registered to run and we will be part of the history” he said.
He said Japan is a friendly nation and they want to organize the best ever and most attended Olympic Games.
