Sports News 'I'm disappointed': Asamoah Gyan slams Abedi Pele
AUG 27, 2015 LISTEN

Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has expressed massive disappointment in a reported comments by Abedi Pele describing as negative the effect on  the national team of Ghana's top players making inroads into the Arab world in pursuit of their professional careers.

With Sulley Muntari now playing in Saudi Arabia for Al Ittihad who also sought to sign both Mubarak Wakaso and Kevin-Prince Boateng in addition to the likes of Rashid Sumaila who also plays in Kuwait, Abedi had said; 'there is a danger, if we don't have players playing in France or Italy or Germany, the future is not bright at all and I'm very very worried."

But Gyan who now plays in China after three years in the United Arab Emirates' Arabian Gulf League playing for Pele's former club, Al Ain is furious amid revealing Abedi even urged him to make the move to the UAE in the first place.

"I have played in those countries that he is talking about: Italy, France and England," began Gyan who of course starred and banged in goals in all of Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Premier League.

'I'm surprised about Abedi's comments. With my move to Al Ain, he was even instrumental in all of it. He advised me to join them because he had also played there," Gyan told Kumasi based Angel FM.

"He further advised me not to pay heed to what Ghanaians will say about my move. And I also felt that for a legend like Abedi, whom I recognize as Ghana's best player of all time to take a phone to advise me on this was good counsel but for the same person to turn round and grant an interview to say such things, I am really surprised and disappointed in him," the Shanghai SIPG goal machine added.

Abedi, still regarded as Ghana's brightest export to European football where he mostly shone at Olympique Marseille with whom he won the only UEFA Champions' League success by a French club in 1993, rounded off his professional career at Al Ain between 1998 and 2000 scoring 28 goals in 31 games for the UAE side.
