League Report GFA Rubbishes Match Fixing Claims
AUG 13, 2015 LISTEN

Black Stars Management Committee chairman George Kwasi Afriyie has poured cold water on the alleged match fixing claims leveled against some clubs in the domestic league.

Afriyie, also a Director at Liberty Professionals, indicated in an interview that the point difference among the teams on the league log makes it highly impossible for clubs to engage in matches of convenience.

He revealed that a critical look at the league table suggests that apart from the first four teams, the remaining 12 risk falling into the relegation arena so the argument of match fixing is neither here nor there.

Some members of the football family have accused Liberty Professionals of playing it soft when they (Liberty) hosted Hearts of Oak at Dansoman in the 25th league fixture, hence the latter's 1-0 win.

Again, Liberty and Wa All Stars have been accused of fixing their league game last Sunday in Wa, resulting in former's victory due to the Kwasi Nyantakyi-Afriyie strong alliance.

But the outspoken Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Committee member said, 'How can we play fixed matches when we can't guarantee our survival taking into account our position on table?

'What is the guarantee that we will win all our remaining matches? So I don't get it when people accuse teams of playing it soft. You will agree to the fact that this year's season has been one of the most competitive leagues in many years. Apart from the top four teams, relegation could hit any of the clubs below them, especially the last eight.'
