Deliver, sons! Abedi urges Dede and Jordan to shine in EPL

Following their winning debuts in the English Premier League at the weekend, Abedi Pele is urging his sons, Andre and Jordan Ayew to go on and write their names in gold during their time in England.

The sons of the Ghana football legend who both came through the ranks at the club where their father made his name, Olympique Marseille both switched from France to England, Dede at Swansea and Jordan with Aston Villa this summer.

Both earned starting berths for their respective sides as the 2015/16 English Premier League campaign kicked off on Saturday but it was the elder brother who wrote the headlines, Dede scoring Swansea's first goal of the season on his own debut after equalising at Stamford Bridge on the way to a stunning 2-2 draw with defending champions, Chelsea.

It wasn't so rosy for Jordan who was substituted after only 59 minutes by Beninois, Rudy Gestede who went on to score the only goal of the game to hand Villa all three points at Bournemouth.

But Abedi Pele has now doubt whatsoever the task his children face in the highly publicised Premiership.

"For now, we cannot yet rate the moves as successful but we need to look at how things will go and we will pray that they (Andre and Jordan) can deliver for their respective teams," Abedi Pele told Citi FM.

"As God gives these opportunities to the young men, they must humbly take them and turn them into something successful," Pele explained.

He added: "At the end of the season, we can look at the situation and say that we have been able to secure good deals, the boys have made a difference in their clubs and we will see what the future holds for us.'

Having turned out for clubs in France, Italy and Germany but never England during his illustrious career, Abedi is however not surprised that his sons are already starring in the English Premier League, amid both joining in the same transfer window.

The Ayews in fact, re-wrote the record books by becoming the first set of brothers to make their debuts on the same day in Premier League history.

"Andre was a free agent after leaving Marseille while Jordan was under contract (with Lorient) therefore he must have played well for a team (Aston Villa) to pay what they did for him," Abedi noted.

" I think that their situations involved some planning and an element of coincidence. But there was some luck. You must be fortunate to get these opportunities when you are a footballer," the Ghanaian football great said. Follow @thedonplato
