Awal Mohammed has indicated that South Africa doesn't offer a peaceful atmosphere for football.

The former Asante Kotoko defender, who recently joined Esperance de Tunis of Morocco, had a three year spell in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in South Africa with Maritzburg United.

Awal Mohamed has revealed he saw terrible things while playing in South Africa, but managed to stay there because of financial difficulties back home.

'South Africa is not a country that anybody should travel to ply his trade. I could have decided to go back to South Africa, but after all that I experienced within my three years of play, I don't wish to play there again.

'I was playing with fears while in South Africa. I sometimes witnessed people being stabbed, but had to continue playing there because of poverty', he told Metro fm.

Awal Mohammed in February 2015 joined Al Shabab in United Arab Emirates from Maritzburg, but terminated his contract with the former by mutual consent in May 2015 and moved to Esperance as a free agent in July.

The 27-year-old defender was part of the Black Stars team that finished as runners-up to Ivory Coast in the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
