Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is next on Aston Villa's shopping list, with Jordan Ayew their latest addition following his move from FC Lorient on Monday.

he Ghana international penned a five-year deal with the Premier League outfit after the two clubs agreed to a transfer fee of around £8.5 million.

The 23-year-old landed at Villa Park as a potential replacement for Belgian hitman Christian Benteke, who joined Liverpool for £32.5 million.

However, club's boss Tim Sherwood is still keen to strengthen his attacking force before the transfer window closes, with former protégé Emmanuel Adebayor his number one priority.

The Togo international, who has completely slipped out of favour at White Hart Lane, played under Sherwood at Spurs from December 2013 to May 2014.

'I think there is (a deal),' Villa's assistant coach Ray Wilkins told TalkSport.

'I can only talk for myself, but I’m hoping there is because when Adebayor wants to play, he is extremely effective. He knows the Premier League inside out, so he would be a good addition for us.'

According to reports, the 31-year-old will join Villa on a season-long loan with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the season, with Tottenham to take care of part of the striker's £100,000-a-week wages.
