We are still in charge - Hayford

Accra, July 27, GNA - AshGold coach, Bashiru Hayford has downplayed suggestions his side could lose the opportunity of winning the Premier League for the first time in two decade following a lone loss to Kotoko on Sunday.

The Miners who needed all points to solidify their hold at the apex have seen their seven-point gap in recent weeks whittled but Hayford is adamant his side is losing steam.

He said after the match in Kumasi that "I do not think the defeat (to Kotoko) will affect our title chances. We are still atop and the other teams are still chasing us.

'Remember, the League can also be won by the head-to-head rule so we will just keep our focus and work our way to the end.'

AshGold have not won any of their last three matches and Hayford admits the league leaders are feeling the pressure.

"By all means pressure will be on you and we are trying to calm the pressure. It is not over until it is over.'

He said the Miners are however, plotting strategically for the matches ahead. 'We are playing home on our next match and then we go away elsewhere.'

Frank Sarfo Gyamfi's goal separated both sides at the Baba Yara Stadium and the coach insists his side deserved more from the match, which marked their seventh defeat this term.

'Football does not speak the truth, sometimes you play well but you lose. The day was not ours. Anybody who watched the match knows how good we played. I think it is hard luck."

AshGold who have amassed 41 points will be at home to Liberty Professionals on Sunday, before trekking to face Bechem United away.

They will face Medeama SC, Berekum Chelsea, WAFA and Olympics respectively to complete their fixtures for the season.
