Swansea coach Gary Monk has warned that the club's fortunes will not solely rely on Ghana forward Andre Ayew.

The 25-year-old's arrival to the Welsh club sent shockwaves all over with the Ghanaian also wanted by top European clubs.

Many are already under the illusion that Ayew will become the new main man at the Liberty Stadium following the departure of Wilfried Bony.

But manager Gary Monk wants expectations on his new no.10 lowered despite his already impressive games for the Swans.

“He did well. It was a great finish at Forest but he brings that quality. You can see it clearly and you can see he is a very clever player as well,' Monk noted after watching Ayew score his first Swansea goal in the friendly draw with Nottingham Forest.

“But we can’t put too much pressure on him. He is obviously a very good player with a very good pedigree, but our hopes don’t rest on one man.

“He is not going to be a one-player saviour for the team or anything like that. He is a team player and everyone has to be contribute.

“I do think he will bring quality and he has experience as well – I already hear him talking to the group within games and within training sessions. He brings that.

“But it’s not for him to go and score all the goals and create all the chances – everyone has to do that.

“Hopefully what he can do is bring that experience and quality that he has. Everyone else can look at that and they can step up as well.”
