Mega-rich Qatari side Lekhwiya Sports Club have completed the signing of young and highly talented Ghanaian striker Mohammed Muntari in a multi-million dollar move.

Lekhwiya, who are playing in the Asian Champions League, unveiled their new striker who joins from local rivals El Jaish after the youngster lighted up the country’s top-flight league.

Muntari, who left Odartey Lamptey’s Glo Lamp Academy just two years ago and immediately naturalized to play for Qatar, signed a five-year contract.

Lekhwiya’s new head coach Djamel Belmadi praised his new signing as a distinguished striker and a proven player in the Qatar Stars League.

Belmadi knows the player well having worked with him in the Qatar national team, during his time as head coach.

Belmadi added that Muntari will also contribute to the team during the AFC Champions League fixtures. Lekhwiya are set to face Saudi side Al Hilal in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Speaking about the upcoming Champions League clash, Belmadi noted  that he hopes to repeat the achievement accomplished by Qatar national team in Riiyadh, Saudi Arabia, where they lifted the GCC cup.

Mohammed Muntari expressed his huge appreciation to Lekhwiya Sports Club and thanked his previous Club El Jaish.

Speaking on joining the league champions, Muntari said “I have huge aspirations for titles with Lekhwiya and that’s why I chose this side, I hope to contribute to this prestigious team.”

Muntari wob’t be able to play for Ghana again because he has already played for the senior national team of Qatar.
