Asamoah Gyan has joined Shanghai SIPG on a two-year deal

Former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has commended Asamoah Gyan's decision to join Chinese club Shanghai SIPG - believing it is a step up to the competition in the UAE.

The 29-year-old has joined the title-chasing Shanghai on a two-year deal with an option to renew for a further year.

Gyan becomes one of the best paid footballers in the world with his reported weekly earnings rising close to $300,000.

There however exists a tiny minority who believe the Black Stars captain's decision to move to China as against a return to Europe is a bad one.

But former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac under who Asamoah Gyan enjoyed his most productive spell at an international tournament is certain the former Al Ain ace has made the right decision.

'Asamoah Gyan's decision to join the Chinese league is good, because enough money has been injected into it and moreover it is more competitive than that of UAE,' the Serbian trainer said.

Gyan who arrived from Al Ain where he has been an immense success is expected to be unveiled by Shanghai SIPG on Wednesday.
