Role model: My brother's influence groomed my career - Asamoah Gyan

Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan has revealed his elder brother, Baffour Gyan career as a footballer opened opportunities for him to realize his potential and will forever be grateful to him.

Asamoah Gyan has written his name in the history books of not only Ghana football, but that of Africa in his football career so far. He is Ghana's most capped player, with 92 national team appearances since his debut against Somali in 2003.

According to Asamoah Gyan, his brother is his role model as well as someone who led the way for him to play football.

'I would say he (Baffour Gyan) opened the way for me (to play football),' Gyan told Africanfootball.com

'Sometimes you need to rely on somebody to go through. For instance, right now you can take a player to a team because of your name and because of your name, they can accept the person, it is a normal thing but then the person must also prove he deserves that chance.

'My brother used his influence to help me, everywhere I go 'that's Baffour Gyan's brother so let's give him a chance,' Asamoah Gyan noted.

'But then I made sure I never flopped otherwise people would say 'that is Baffour Gyan's brother and so what?'

 'So that time, everywhere I go people referred to me as Baffour Gyan's brother. I made sure I didn't disgrace him and he was my role model.'

'I made sure I made him proud anywhere I go. At that time, people say this is Baffour Gyan's brother but now, when he goes, they say this is Asamoah Gyan's brother.

'That is the level he took me to and I would always be grateful,' the Black Stars captain added.

The Gyan brothers have all played for the Ghana national teams, from junior to senior level.

They were both members of Claude Le Roy's team when Ghana hosted the Afcon in 2008.
