Ghana coach Avram Grant is delighted with the strong start of his team in the 7-1 mauling of Mauritius in the opening 2017 AFCON qualifier on Sunday .

Christian Atsu opened the scoring after 10 minutes if insistent pressure to ultimately open the flood gates in what eventually proved to be a massacre at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asamoah Gyan and Jordan Ayew got in on the act before the end of the first half which saw Ghana up by 4-1.

Goals were added by Gyan, Jeffery Schlupp and David Accam to complete the rout.

Avram Grant was particularly excited by the strong start to his team in following the game plan of killing the game off in the first half.

'We played good football especially in the first half. That was our target, to kill the game in the first half to show there is a difference between the two teams not on paper but on the pitch,' he said after the game

'And the players did a good job. The movement was good, good goals.

'We could have scored more goals but I am happy. Of course in every game we can do better but the most important thing is to continue in the atmosphere and the spirit we played in the African Cup.'

Ghana will play Rwanda next in Kigali when the 2017 AFCON qualifiers resume in September.
