Return to England: Sulley Muntari nears Everton switch
01.06.2015 LISTEN

Everton are being linked with a move for AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari. The Ghanaian international has previous in England. He played for Portsmouth in 2007-08 and on loan at Sunderland in 2011. Now it is claimed by Fanta Gazzetta that he is in talks with Everton over a move to Goodison Park.

He has not been in great form recently and has only played 17 times for struggling AC Milan this season. He looks set to depart the club this summer with Milan looking to revamp their entire squad after some dismal recent performances.

Muntari is certainly a talented player but aged 30 he is hardly going to lower the average age in the Everton team, which already contains veterans such as Gareth Barry, Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka.

Everton fans would certainly like to see an entirely different midfielder come in, especially considering Muntari's disciplinary record also being questionable. If not, bringing through the likes of Ryan Ledson would still be preferable to Everton's cause.

Muntari has not played since March and is not out of contract until next summer, meaning Everton would actually have to pay for his services.

On a free transfer, maybe Muntari is a shrewd move. But actually having to pay for him? This is a transfer rumour Everton will hope does not come true.
