Many Sports Journalists in Ghana have tipped newly crowned IBF Inter-continental lightweight champion Richard Oblitey Commey for greatness and a future world champion for Africa.

Commey, the SWAG Best Boxer for 2014 who returned home a day after winning in his first fight in the United States of America against Uzbek Bahodir Mamadjonov at the D Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada has also been tipped by executives of the Ghana Boxing Authority and top sports personalities for his discipline in the ring and training.

The new IBF Inter Continental champion who improved his record to 22-0 (20 KO’s) by scoring two knockdowns to induce a stoppage in the eighth and clinch the vacant IBF Inter-continental title has also heard what people say about him and he is not leaving any stone unturned, as he has stepped up his training and now training like a real World Champion. His trusted trainer Carl Lokko believes he can make it to the title and that is their target

Commey said that the Mamadjonov victory is a stepping stone in his quest for a world title shot.

“Mamadjonov is a good boxer but our strategy worked to perfection,” he exclaimed. “The victory over him will cushion me for a world title shot which I’m working towards.

Meanwhile, fans of boxing in Ghana trooped the streets of Bukom and James Town to see the new title of the rising champion.
