Age cheating blues: Claude Le Roy's claims are baseless - Micky Charles

Congo Brazzaville coach Claude le Roy accused Ghana of fielding over-age footballers this weekend in a 1-0 Rio Olympic Games qualifying match.

The former Black Stars handler told the media in a post match press conference he had coached some of the Ghanaians and they did not meet the competition's requirement of being born on or after January 1 1993.

"This is not fair," fumed Le Roy. "Congo play by the rules and Ghana do not.

"I coached some of these Ghanaians seven years ago for an African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Niger. They are not under-23 footballers," he insisted.

The 'white witch doctor' as he is famously called among the African media also said six of his players used their real age.

And Chief Executive Officer of B.A Stars, Micky Charles has hit back at the 67-year old French tactician, saying his comments are baseless.

"Coach Claude Le Roy comments are baseless. By his comments, he said six of the Congolese players used their real age, what is he talking about, what about the other five players who played in the game, what about the three substitutes?" He quizzed.

"As far as I am concerned, the players of the Black Meteors were all U-23. It is always difficult to determine the age of people. So I'm surprised Claude Le Roy is going round making noise all over the place.

"He says he used some of them in a CHAN qualifier; who are those players, he should mention names."

Allsports.com.gh  can confirm that goalscorer of the game, Enoch Andoh was actually part of Le Roy's squad to Niger for the CHAN qualifier, but was considered one of the best rising talent in the country.
