MAY 24, 2015 LISTEN

The departure was never going to be easy for Andre Ayew and it wasn't. The Ghanaian played his last game for the French club he joined as a youth and the final goodbye to Olympique Marseille fans had to be said.

As Ayew had anticipated prior to his 'special' game on Saturday, it was an emotional night. The thought of a future elsewhere had to be put on hold temporarily. The Black Stars vice-captain made it all about the Olympique Marseille family and rightly so.

How could he not after spending eleven amazing years of his football career with the French football club? Tears wear shed. Emotions reached its highest peak. But what was meant to be was meant to be. Andre Dede Ayew had to say goodbye to Olympique Marseille and goodbye he did say.

'I am very emotional and proud of what I have been able to accomplish here. I would like to thank the fans for all their support. He (Abedi Pele) told me to enjoy it, that such moments don't happen every day. As far as my future is concerned, there is nothing to say at the moment',  Ayew said.

'I lived here for 11 years and I'm proud of all the memories that I had here. I feel confused, it wasn't an easy decision to make. All my family members came from Ghana to help me in this mission and to say goodbye to Marseille.

'I wish to become like Didier Drogba . He left Marseille like a king and went to Chelsea to become a legend there.'

Andre Ayew won the French Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille once, the French Super Cup twice and also the League Cup twice.
