Hearts of Oak supporters chief Barima Atuahene says the attempted fan attacks on Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi was only a case of missing identity – with the real target rather being chairman of the Premier League Board Welbeck Abra-Appiah.

Some supporters heckled the GFA President on his way out of the stadium following Hearts' 1-0 defeat to AC Djoliba in a CAF Confederation Cup match on Sunday.

And even though the Phobians progressed on the away goal's rule, the fans remained unhappy with the substandard performance of their team.

The supporters attributed the team's poor showing to fatigue after the club was denied a request to have their midweek Premier League game against AshantiGold in the lead up to the Djoliba clash postponed.

The irate supporters also blamed the GFA boss for the limited opportunities for their players in national team call ups.

Nyantakyi emerged a bit roughed up by the irate supporters before seeking refuge in his waiting car.

Chairman of Hearts of Oak's National Chapters Committee – the club's supporter's wing – Barima Atuahene revealed that the real target for the attacks was rather the PLB boss Welbeck Abra-Appiah.

“The attacks on Kwesi Nyantakyi was a case of missing identity. The target of the supporters was Abra Appiah who is the chairman of the Premier League Board,” Barima Atuahene told Asempa FM.

“The intention was not to physically attack anyone but then to launch a protest of the sort.

“The fury of the fans should have been directed to Abra Appiah in a protest and not Kwesi Nyantakyi.”

Hearts of Oak's management have however issued an apology on the shameful conduct of their fans after the Djoliba game.
