We're sorry: Hearts apologise for Nyantakyi attack
04.05.2015 LISTEN

Hearts of Oak have apologized for the physical attack on Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi during their CAF Confederation Cup match against AC Djoliba on Sunday.

The Phobians qualified to the next round of the competition despite being pipped 1-0 by the Malian side at the Accra sports stadium.

A few sections of the Phobian supporters wanted to attack the CAF Executive Committee member following the GFA's decision to turn down the request to postpone the final game of the Ghana Premier League first round against AshantiGold SC last Wednesday.

However, the Accra-based club, through its Corporate affairs manager Joe Addo, has apologised to Nyantaki for the bad conduct of the fans.

"On behalf of the Hearts of Oak management, i must apologize to Mr. Nyantakyi for the shameful conduct of the supporters," Addo said.

"Their acts cannot be justified in any sense as the GFA have been an arm of immense support for our African campaign."

"The GFA donated $30,000 towards our campaign and are offering support in many other ways."

"So for one to blame Mr. Nyantakyi for anything is simply not right. If they have grievances, there are appropriate channels to route them but not in this shameful and regrettable way."
