Ghana Table Tennis: Lynda Annor wins Top 8

Lynda Annor of the Ghana Immigration Service was crowned winner of the 2015 Top 8 Competition organized by the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTTF) and sponsored by Stanbic Bank at the rlg Hathiramani Hall.

She defeated Efia Foriwa of the Customs & Excise Service (CEPS) 3-1 to become the nation’s number one in eleven years.

The SWAG 2013 Best Table Tennis player said she wasw very happy because she remembers being number one in 2004 and up till last Saturday she was either second, third or four for ten years.

She thanked the media for exposing her and noted that the SWAG award has inspired her a lot.

“I want to thank the Lord Almighty first and my coach, Mr. Whyte as well as my training partner” she said.

Annor had it tough at the Semi Final against sensational Cylia Baah Danso of the Ghana Armed Forces and the massive support she enjoyed made her overpower the military lady who settled for the third place.

In the men’s division, Number One Sedd Derek Abrefa of CEPS also beat his colleague Emmanuel Commey 3-1 to retain his position.

Other Semi- Finalists were Felix Lartey of CEPS and Samuel Akayade of GAF.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mustapha Ahmed who graced the finals urged the players to be disciplined and be committed to the sport.

He assured them that the government will do everything to support them when they qualify for international competition.

Mawuko Afadzinu, President of the GTTF who was satisfied with the standard of play and discipline shown by the Top 8 players in both the male and Female divisions said the game is fast improving in Ghana and very soon they will test their skills against other countries in the sub region or advanced countries for training.

He commended Stanbic Bank for sponsoring the event and prayed that other companies will support the less financed sports where Ghana has advantage of winning medals at international competition.
