AFCON 2017 qualifiers: How Ghana has fared against fellow group H opponents

Ghana will be hoping to win the AFCON 2017, not as a host though after losing out to Gabon. To get any chance doing better than 2015 they will have to negotiate with Rwanda, Mozambique and Mauritius for the single qualification ticket.

How have Ghana fared against their group opponent?
RWANDA
The Black stars have met Amavubi of Rwanda on 2 occasions when they were paired in the same group for the AFCON 2004 qualifiers.

The 1st leg was in Accra where Ghana won by 4-2 with goals with Derek Boaten and Charles Taylor on the scoresheet.

Ghana lost the 2nd leg by a lone  Jimmy Gatete goal.Rwanda did qualify ahead of Ghana after the Stars failed to beat Uganda in the last group game.

06 july 2003 – Rwanda 1-0 Ghana
MOZAMBIQUE
Ghana have met Mozambique on 4 occasions, winning 3 and drawing the other.  The 1st meeting took place during the AFCON 1996 where they were the Black Stars group opponent in group D.

The 4 time Africa Champions won the game courtesy a goal each from Felix Aboagye and Abedi Ayew Pele.

Ghana 0-0 Mozambique
19 Jan 1998 – Friendly Ghana 3-1 Mozambique
24 Jan 1999 – AFCON qualifiers
Ghana 1-0 Mozambique
NB- ( there was no return leg for the AFCON qualifiers because Ghana and Nigeria replaced Zimbabwe as host and there had to stop any further engagement in the Qualifiers)

MAURITIUS
Ghana will be meeting Mauritius for the 1st time during the AFCON 2017 qualifiers
