AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari has returned to his home country of Ghana even though the Serie A is still underway, signalling that his stay and relationship with the Italian giants might have come to end.

The controversial player was been spotted in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on Wednesday night at the time his club team-mates are busy fighting for AC Milan to secure a good finish by the end of the season.

It is not known if his arrival in Ghana at the middle of the season has the support of the club which is highly unlikely showing that there is a new phase to his tension with Milan.

But others are speculating that his contract with AC Milan might have been cancelled which has not been confirmed by the two parties.

This comes after the club told the talented but temperamental Ghana international that they are not interested in having him in their first team squad even though his contract with them expires in June next year.

The decision not axe him from the team is believed to have led to a row between the player and the club as the midfielder has refused to train with the first team saying he has no future with the Serie A side.

He was subsequently flogged to the second team following the stand-off but his decision to come home at this time has sent insiders thinking that their relationship is at an all time low.

He was spotted with comedian Funny Face and television presenter Ama K. Abrebese, who is a friend of Muntari's wife following their outing on Wednesday night in Accra which has sparked concerns about his future with AC Milan.

The midfielder's agent vehemently denied that there was a stand-off between the two parties when it emerged that coach Filipo Inzaghi has asked that the Ghanaian be excluded from the team.

“Muntari will continue to train with the team every day, and on Saturday and Sunday he will train alone. He will be paid by the club because he'll continue his employment. It was a mutual decision for him not to play,” agent Federico Pastorello told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“There is no controversy behind this decision. It was agreed fully with the club. There are no disciplinary or medical reasons. He just wants to avoid sitting on the bench as a substitute,” agent Pastorello explained.

“We spoke to Adriano Galliani and we reached this point. It's a situation that will continue for the rest of the season, unless [coach] Pippo Inzaghi has an emergency and needs him,” he added.

“It's a demonstration of fairness for an important player who is aged 31 and has already been told he's not part of the future at Milan.”
