Ghanaian striker Samuel Afum rediscovered his scoring boots after netting a brace for BSC Young Boys in their 6-0 friendly win over lower-tier side Breitenrain in Switzerland on Tuesday.

With the Swiss Super League on suspension due to the international break, Young Boys engaged the third-tier side to keep their players active and the former Ghana U23 attacker used the game to demonstrate his readiness to resume scoring.

Despite first-choice French striker Guillaume Hoarau starting the match, it was Afum who opened the floodgate for the goal by scoring in the 13th minute.

The former Hearts of Oak man threatened the Breitenrain goal area with his aggressive mobility and trademark power play resulting in a double assist for Vitkieviez (26th minute) and Bürki (41st minute).

Afum completed his brace on the afternoon by expertly notching the ball between legs of the visitors keeper after brilliantly nutmegging a defender and approaching the area with the confidence of a lion.

The 24-year-old has scored two (2) league goals in 18 league appearances for Young Boys in an injury-disturbed season.

With his form shown in the friendly game, Young Boys coach Uli Forte is likely to hand him more playing time when they face Vaduz during the coming weekend.

“It was a good feeling to get back on track with the goals. I hope to translate it into the league in the last few weeks of the season,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Afum's club – BSC Young Boys are in hot pursuit of the Super League title as they are in in close challenge with leaders FC Basel.
