Ride the tide: David Duncan stickers get popular in Kumasi

Coach Duncan has become a sudden cult hero at Kumasi Asante Kotoko. Believe it or not, the man now has a car sticker designed in his honour.

He made a somewhat chaotic entrance into the Oseikrom club when in Otumfour's absence, the remaining powers that be at Manhyia did not seem enthused about management's decision to appoint him as the substantive coach of the club.

His crime was that he had spoken against fans of the club during his previous escapades with Hearts of Oak and Obuasi Ashantigold.

Fast-forward one month and he is the talk of Kumasi. During his colourful unveiling at the club's secretariat, a fan doled out GHS1, 000 ''to help him settle in Kumasi.'' As if that was not enough, a Kotoko Circle at Nerebehi which is a short distance from the hometown of Duncan's father bestowed upon him the role of a patron.

Duncan had then masterminded Kotoko's pulsating drawn game in Algeria against Eulma Mouloudia in the champions league but was for the first time in his career coming to terms with what it meant to be a Kotoko coach.

He went on to beat Bechem United in Bechem by 3 goals to 1 and Paga Crocodiles in Bolga in the MTN FA Cup by 4 goals to nil.

Such has been the relief and sense of serenity at Kotoko since his arrival that a Kotoko fan has even found it necessary to design a car sticker to honour him. The sticker which was spotted at the back of a Toyota Corolla car with registration number AS 4508 T was seen at the premises of the Baba Yara Stadium after Kotoko had pipped Liberty Professionals by a goal to nil.

The red sticker had inscribed on it, Kotoko's crest beneath the club's name on the right side and a picture of Coach David Duncan on the left and an accolade of 'The Special One' in apparent reference to Chelsea's Jose Mourinho who is famed for that accolade.

Coach Duncan is expected to have one over Eulma over the weekend when Kokoto face off against their Algerian counterparts in the 2nd leg of the 1/16th stage of the champions league. Attempts to reach the driver of the car proved futile
