06.03.2015 LISTEN

All participating runners of the Accra Millennium Marathon would wear an electronic band that would prevent cheating.

According to the organisers, the band would be able to time each runner when they cross the finish line.

Rancard Solutions, a company outsourced to develop the back end IT engine for the website of the Millennium Marathon made a presentation of the requirements for the site and actual event.

“Runners who stopped and did not complete would also be tracked. The database of runners would be giving to the Security agencies for their own use. The Ministry of Health would also have the database of the runners for vital statistics in case of any health issues. All members were satisfied with their presentation. Rancard would run on their own network which would not be subject to local internet networks for info” said Pradeep.

Pradeep, the Vice President of the Rancard Solutions gave an insight to members of the national planning committee of the marathon which comes off in the capital city of Ghana on September 6, 2015.

A few of the aspects of the back end engine was that He expressed that their internet is very stable and it doesn't breakdown due to the use of their satellite. He also noted that in the event of any accident along the route, the satellite will pick it up and the information will be sent to the Ministry of Health as to when and where the incident occurred so that emergency aids can be sent there.

Amb. Morton, Partner to the Millennium Marathon informed that race registration and payment will be done through the website by a simple method which Rancard will present to the committee later.

He hinted that local runners will be required to pay GH¢20 for adults and GH¢10 for students, while foreign runners pay $20 for adults and $10 for students and minors.

Meanwhile preparations for the grand launch of the Millennium Marathon at the Alisa Hotel is underway and the great Ethiopian runner Haile Gabrseselassie is expected to land in Accra to meet the media and pay courtesy calls on some dignitaries.
