Sports News Afriyie triumphs: Acquah's Sampdoria stage comeback win at Atalanta
MAR 1, 2015 LISTEN

Afriyie Acquah is celebrating a first victory in the colours of Sampdoria following a come from behind victory away to Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

Acquah lasted all game long alongside compatriot, Alfred Duncan who was only substituted in injury time as Sampdoria came from a goal down at halftime to score twice in the second half to end a 6-game winless run.

It is a first victory for Acquah in three attempts since arriving from Parma on loan and it was one that was also sweet revenge against his old friend, Richmond Boakye Yiadom who scored an injury time winner for Atalanta the last time Acquah faced him in Serie A, a 1-0 win over Parma back on October 19, 2014.

He had told Bokaye Yiadom Sampdoria would win today's game 3-0 earlier this morning to which his friend responded that Atalanta would rather be 2-0 victors.

In the end, Boakye could not conjure any last minute heroics again for Atalanta who threw him on after 73 minutes with the scoreline at 1-1.

But it was Acquah and Sampdoria who were laughing following their first victory in the Italian top flight since a 2-0 win at Parma on January 18.

It's not all that rosy in Bergamo however after a 4th straight league defeat for Atalanta leaves them just three points above the drop zone on 23 points from 25 games.

Sampdoria now have 39 points and next host Cagliari in Serie A next Saturday, March 7 when Atalanta seek a better fortune at rock bottom, Parma the following day. Follow @thedonplato
