Grand Slam record-holder Roger Federer claimed his 84th title of his career on Saturday when he beat Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Dubai Open.

The seven-time Dubai champion won 6-4, 7-5 in a keenly contested final which saw the two best players in the world testing each other's pulse.

"I definitely won the big points tonight," the 33-year-old Swiss said.

"I am very happy with this, otherwise I don't think I would be here giving this interview.

"It's very special to be part of this match. We have played many, many times, and this seventh title does mean a lot. I will always come back here every single year," he noted.

Novak Djokovic was, however proud of his compatriot's performance.

"We always make each other play our best tennis," he said.

"We require from each other the maximum focus and commitment, and that's what raises the quality of the match. That is why he's who he is," he added.
