Motivate players: Coach Fabien blames decline of Ghana League on poor salaries

Paa Kwesi Fabien has urged all football administrators to pay attractive salaries to keep a core of their team in the country in order to promote the domestic league.

The Ghana League is on the decline, prompting the president of the republic, John Mahama to tackle it during the state of the nation's address on Thursday by encouraging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make it a major priority.

The Black Satellites coach has added his voice to that of the president of Ghana by advocating that  good salaries for the playing body is the way out to improve on  the quality of the league, because it would solve the frequent quest for greener pastures overseas by most players.   

'It is eyesore to hear of the kind of salaries some clubs pay their playing body. This doesn't motivate them to give out their very best,' he told Fox fm.

'This is the more reason why our local players look for opportunities to play abroad, even at stages there are not matured to do so, thus denying the local league of a better future.

'So to keep these players in the country the clubs should be ready to improve on their remuneration system for the playing body.'

The movement of local players abroad is evident in the fact that for the past four seasons all the top scorers of the league sought greener pastures elsewhere.
