He's back! Bright Addae returns to power Ascoli to big win
28.02.2015 LISTEN

Bright Addae marked his return to the Ascoli starting line-up from a 2-match ban with victory for the promotion chasers over direct challengers, Pisa after they slumped to a shock defeat two weeks ago during his absence.

Addae missed Ascoli's surprise 3-1 defeat at lowly Prato on February 15 following suspension for his red card in the previous game, a 2-1 victory against SPAL on February 8.

So much was the absence felt that Ascoli crashed to the comprehensive loss at struggling Prato who moved out of the relegation zone with what was their first win in five league games.

But Friday night, the Ghanaian was back in his now favourite midfield role for Ascoli as they faced 4th placed Pisa away from home in Lega Pro Group B as the fight for promotion came down to the 2014/15 match day 27 clash.

In the end, 25 year old Italian striker, Leonardo Perez's 66th minute strike proved decisive at the Arena Garibaldi - Stadio Romeo Anconetaniin Pisa as Addae's side ran away with all three points to strengthen their grip on the lead atop the section of Italy's third tier football league.

It means that Ascoli who also beat Savona at home last week, improve their lead at the apex of Serie C's group B to 53 points, five clear of second placed Teramo who nevertheless still have Sunday's match day 27 tie at home to SPAL in hand.

3rd placed Reggiana have two games in hand on 44 points, same as Pisa who also have a game in hand as the race for the automatic qualification and two play-off spots intensify with the season entering the long stretch.

Only the group winner after 38 league matches each gain automatic qualification to next season's Serie B whilst the 2nd and 3rd placed teams enter the playoffs for the last qualifying slot to the second tier league of Italian football. Follow @thedonplato
