League Report No Cash: Money Wahala Delay Hearts Of Oak Trip To Benin
FEB 26, 2015 LISTEN

Believe it or not but Accra Hearts of Oak face a race against time to make it to Benin for Saturday's second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round tie against AS Police due to a lack of cash to finance the trip.

A contingent of 23 players, 7 technical team members and other club officials were expected to depart Accra this morning to the fellow West African country ahead of Saturday's game which Hearts lead 1-0 from the first leg but sources close to the club have revealed that the team's departure has been delayed because the Board of Directors could not raise the needed funds involved.

Citing the late presentation of the budget, the Board are apparently in a dilemma as to how to raise the finances to take care of expenses the team will incur on the journey to and fro including hotel accomodation in Cotonou among others.

'There is no money to embark on the trip to Benin. We were expected to depart Accra at 8am, but the board has not released any money because the total budget for [the] trip was presented to them too late," Myjoyline.com have quoted Hearts of oak sources.

"It is very frustrating but in all of that we can only hope that the money will be released on time so we can get there on time to take some rest before the game,' it added.

Hearts won the first leg in Accra on February 15 by a lone goal on their return to the tournament of which they were the maiden winners back in 2004 when they defeated eternal rivals, Asante Kotoko in an all-Ghanaian final.

The Phobians have made an indifferent start to the Ghana Premier League campaign sitting in 12th place on 11 points from a possible 27 despite yesterday's 3-2 victory over Aduana Stars in Accra. Follow @thedonplato
