Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to put in efforts into making the country's top-flight league 'attractive' and 'interesting'.

The GFA has come in for the flak for the dwindling interest in the game and the low attendances in league matches in recent times pay attention to the local league and make it more attractive and interesting.

President Mahama has asked the GFA during the State of the Nation address in Parliament on Thursday to improve spectatoring and the quality of the local league.

“So the seeming total neglect of our local football league is a matter of concern to football loving fans,” President Mahama said.

“I wish to urge the Football Association to turn its attention to improving the quality of our local league and work towards making it more attractive, exciting and well following,” he added.

The GFA says it is putting in efforts to improve the local league.
