Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan insists he will continue to fight for his country despite his lack of fitness at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The 28-year-old has struggled for full fitness since the start of the tournament on January 17.

The Al Ain attacker was knocked down with a 'mild bout of malaria' which ruled him out of the country's opening defeat to Senegal.

However, he returned to the team in a blistering fashion, grabbing a fabulous goal at the death to help the Black Stars secure a priceless 1-0 win over highly-rated Algeria.

The former Sunderland man says he's not operating at full capacity but will die for the nation irrespective of his fitness level.

“Honestly, I will not say I'm at a 100 percent,” Gyan told football411. “You need to take risks and as I always say, I am always focused on what I do and I have to keep going. I am here to die for the nation as a captain

“When my colleagues see me on the field, it motivates them and that is what I am here to do. I am here to give everything to the nation and make sure we qualify to the next stage of the competition.”
