Ghana winger Andre Ayew has hailed the Black Stars new founds fighting spirit that has seen the four-time champions dig deep to reach the quarter finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana came back from the brink of elimination with two goals in the last 17 minutes to beat South Africa 2-1 and reach the African Cup of Nations quarter-finals on Tuesday.

This came just few days after captain Asamoah Gyan scored a last-gasp goal that secured an important 1-0 win against Algeria in their second group game on Tuesday.

The four-times winners were heading for an early exit in Tuesday's game against South Africa after Mandla Masango's spectacular volley for Bafana Bafana in the 17th minute.

But substitute John Boye equalised from close range in the 73rd minute for Avram Grant's side and Andre Ayew headed home 10 minutes later for a victory that took Ghana from going out to topping the group.

“I am very happy with the way we played. I managed to give the ball to John Boye, and he scored”, Ayew said in a post match interview.

“It was a very good team performance, and we need to be calm. We need to know we have done a good job.

“If that's how [coming back from behind] we are going to get to the final then we will do it.”

“So once again I congratulate the entire squad, I hope this victory will help us become more United and go further”, he added.

Ghana will now face the runners-up in Group D in Malabo on Sunday.
