AFCON 2015: Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan seeks to set scoring record against South Africa
26.01.2015 LISTEN

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is seeking to set his country's new scoring record at the Africa Cup of Nations when the Black Stars take on South Africa on Tuesday.

The Black Stars captain's stoppage time winner against Algeria on Friday ensured he equalled Ghana's scoring record at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Al Ain man is now tied on seven goals with Osei Kofi, a veteran of the Black Stars side that won the continental title in 1965.

If he scores against the Bafana Bafana in Mongomo in Mongomo, he will become the country highest scorer at the tournament as he will now surpass the record set by Osei Kofi.

The 29-year-old, who missed their opening 2-1 defeat to Senegal last Monday, shrugged off a bout of malaria for that headline grabbing display in their Group C clash.

Gyan last year became Africa's leading scorer in World Cup history with seven goals; surpassing Cameroon legend Roger Milla who is on six.
