JAN 26, 2015 LISTEN

Bright Addae celebrated his second goal for Ascoli Picchio on Sunday in their resounding 4-1 victory over Tuttocuoio at the Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca (Ascoli Piceno) as they maintained their one point lead on the Lega Pro Girone B standings in Italy.

The former Wa All Stars defender fondly nicknamed Gigi at Ascoli, plays in midfield these days and is fast adding a knack for scoring goals to his game as he did today by popping up at the right place at the right time to notch in his side's fourth goal of the day on on match day 22 of Italy's third tier league.

The 22 year old who was taken to Italy by Serie A hotshots, Parma but for who he has struggled to nail a regular place joined Ascoli on loan in the summer and has been almost ever present, starting 19 of their 22 games so far and backing it with now two goals to boot, from defensive midfield of course.

The Ghanaian showed his eye for goal as far back as November 9, 2014 when he netted his first goal of the campaign for Ascoli, the sucker goal in their Lega Pro Girone B match day 12 trip to Reggiana, Addae's goal sealing the three points on that occasion at the Stadio Città del Tricolore (Reggio Emilia).

"The name Bright, which in English means shining, is a common name in Africa, but Mengoni decided to call me Gigi to shorten," Addae told Ascolilive.it about the origins of his nickname.

"At the beginning of my football career in Ghana I was a defender, but once I landed in the youth team of Parma they moved me to midfield and I'm enjoying it big time," he added on his new position.

At just 3 games over the halfway line of the season, Ascoli sit at the apex of what is group 2 of Serie C, the third division of Italian league football and would be assured of automatic qualification to Serie B next term should they maintain the position come end of the 2014/15 term, even in the face of stern competition from 2nd placed, Teramo who also won on Sunday, 3-1 over Forli.

Ascoli sit atop the Girone B standings on 41 points with Teramo hot on their heels on 40 points, but Bright Addae and his teammates are determined to keep their challengers at bay with 16 league games to go. Follow @thedonplato
