Cup of Nations Algeria are not 'scared champions' of 2015 AFCON, says returnee striker Kadir
DEC 29, 2014 LISTEN

Striker Foued Kadir says Algeria cannot be considered 'sacred champions' of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations on the basis of their performance at the 2014 World Cup.

The Real Betis man has been handed a return to the team after missing the World Cup staged in Brazil.

He will be joining the rest of his international teammates on what is considered as their toughest campaign ever at the AFCON having been drawn in the same group as Senegal, South Africa and Ghana.

Kadir admits to the tough challenge ahead but agrees to the general assertion of Algeria being the hot favourites to win the title in Equatorial Guinea.

“Listen, by what was shown in the World Cup, the dream is allowed,” he said.

“It is fair to say that we are the favorites, but today no one can say that we will be sacred African champions.

“We have the resources and staffing for the future but there is the reality of the field that counts.”

Algeria will open their 2015 AFCON campaign against South Africa on January 19 before facing Ghana and then Senegal in their subsequent Group C games.
