“DENKYEM” ATHLETICS PROGRAM TAKES OFF!!!

When it comes to the development of the youth in the area of sports and education, one name that comes to mind is “Denkyem”, in full; Denkyem Charitable Foundation Inc , the Tema based non governmental organization.

The organization over the years, mainly through the support of Denkyem Charitable organization (USA), has been able to contribute to the growth of the sports sector in disciplines such as soccer, athletics, netball and lately basketball etc. in the Tema Metropolis and beyond.

The vision of the organization has been to unearth talents in the various sporting categories to prevent the youth from indulging in social vices such as drug abuse, prostitution, armed robbery etc; a threat to national development.

Both public and private schools have also benefitted from the projects that “Denkyem” has been initiating, by receiving sports items like soccer balls, jerseys, net ball posts etc, as well as providing coaching personnel for soccer, athletics and netball etc.

The year 2014 has seen “ Denkyem” take athletics to another level to discover talents that can match up to the standards of the Usain Bolt's, Michael Johnson's, Asafa Powell's and even local heroes such as Leo Myles Mills, Aziz Zakari, etc.

“Denkyem” was able to train young athletes from the schools in the community to participate in the Standard Chartered Bank “Fastest Human” athletics meet at the El Wak Sports stadium, and although first timers, the pupils faired well due to the hard work of the coaches .

The schools in the metropolis eg. The Community two (2) number four primary school which has been adopted by the organization has been assigned with a coaching staff that prepares them for their annual inter school athletics meet.

Other schools like Aggrey road primary school, Mexico primary school, New age Educational Centre ( a private school) which has already been benefitting from the soccer program, are going to be included in the coming years program.

Structures are being put in place to make the coming year a successful one in the area of athletics, so the organization is leaving no stone unturned to make this vision come to pass.

Watch out for “Denkyem” in 2015! It really has come to stay!!!
