Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah wants Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari recalled to the Black Stars despite being a victim of their  acts at the 2014 World Cup.

Muntari has been slapped with an indefinite international suspension after physically abusing a Ghana FA official over a bonus row during the tournament staged in Brazil.

The 30-year-old has since not been considered for Black Stars selection while the commitment of his AC Milan teammate Michael Essien has been questioned after refusing to warm up in Ghana's final World Cup game against Portugal.

Many are of the strong conviction that the duo must not be readmitted into the Black Stars to ensure sanity in camp especially during tournaments where the players are grouped together over a period.

But Kwesi Appiah who lost his job with the Black Stars in the aftermath of the disastrous World Cup campaign believes the AC Milan duo are needed back because of the quality they continue to exhibit at club level.

“They are good players and I think they still have a lot of football in them,” he told Joy FM.

“They are my friends but I don't want them to return only because they my friends but they are AC Milan players and they are playing very well so personally I think we need them back in the Black Stars.”

Muntari and Essien are however unlikely to make the Ghana squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars' orientation is more of putting in a solid foundation in January's tournament towards winning the 2017 edition.
