Asante Kotoko defender Samuel Abeiku Ainooson says the delay in the start of the Ghana Premier League could hamper his chances of making Avram Grant's Africa Cup of Nations squad.

Ainooson won the best defender in last season's MTN FA Cup and also voted the best defender in the First Capital Plus Premier league.

He has picked up from where he left off last season with assured displays in Kotoko's friendly games.

Despite being in good shape, Ainooson admits the lack of competitive matches can hinder his chances of playing at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

“For me I am ready to serve my nation and I believe in my abilities and will be very happy to be named in the squad for the tournament. But it will take a miracle for that to happen because of the delay of the league,” Ainooson said.

“However I have my fingers crossed to see what comes up when the names of the called up players are revealed.”

Ainooson was a member of the local Black Stars squad which placed second in South Africa last year at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
